Breezy conditions and a chance for showers will start off the work week Monday around the region, with a blowing dust advisory east of Carson City into Lyon and Mineral counties, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say a band of showers has extended from the Lake Tahoe Basin to I-80 into central Nevada. Any amounts will be light, a few hundredths at best with snow above 6,000 feet that accumulates little if at all.
Winds will bring a minor to moderate increase in fire danger for lower elevations as well as bring dangerous boating conditions and areas of blowing dust, according to the weather service. Lighter winds return Tuesday with above average high temperatures and seasonably cool lows for the rest of the week.
East of Carson City, the National Weather Service has issued a Blowing Dust Advisory in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Monday in Mineral and Southern Lyon Counties and Western Nevada Basin and Range including Pyramid Lake.
According to the advisory, wind gusts of 30 to 45 mph may result in blowing dust, with visibility between 1 and 3 miles locally below 1 mile. The weather service also advises of decreased air quality.
Elsewhere, there’s a Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph expected. Waves 2 to 3 feet for mid-lake to eastern shores. Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.
Around Carson City and Carson Valley this week, temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60s through at least Thursday, according to the weather service.
