Enjoy the brief warmup this weekend around Carson City and surrounding counties as another winter storm is expected Sunday through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The sharp cold front that will bring the storm will also bring strong wind gusts and increased chances for accumulating snow from Lake Tahoe down to the western Nevada valleys. Icy roads could affect the Monday morning commute, according to NWS forecasters.

For the Sierra, the storm could bring another several inches to more than a foot of new snowfall. Along with the snow potential, temperatures Monday will plunge to about 20 degrees below average with highs only in the lower 40s for lower elevations and near to below freezing for Sierra communities.

For the time being though, temperatures Friday and Saturday should be near seasonal with sunny skies and highs near 50 for the Carson City area.

The big changes are expected to arrive Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. The weather service advises that strong winds on Sunday into Monday, especially in Nevada and the Eastern Sierra, could result in high profile vehicle restrictions, and localized tree/fence damage and power outages.

Snow showers and much colder temperatures will linger across the region Monday into Tuesday, with a drying and gradual warming trend starting to shape up for the balance of next week, according to NWS forecasters.
