From a region with a crystal-blue famed lake to a state of 10,000 of them, non-stop daily service to Minneapolis, Minn., from Reno-Tahoe International Airport will begin July 1, airport officials announced today.

Delta Air Lines will post the Minneapolis-Reno flight for sale on Saturday, April 2. The flight will provide connections to the Midwest and eastern United States as well as international destinations such as Amsterdam, London and eight cities in Canada.

Minnesota is known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.”

“Minneapolis is a great addition to our list of hub airports and provides terrific connections across the country and across the world,” Krys Bart, AAE, President/CEO of Reno-Tahoe International Airport said. “We appreciate Delta Air Lines bringing Minneapolis back to our community.”

Service to Minneapolis had been offered on Northwest Airlines ended at Reno-Tahoe in early 2006. For five years, the staff at Reno-Tahoe has worked diligently to bring the service back to the region, officials said.

“It takes years of relationship building and business analyses with the airlines to gain new air service,” Bart said. “Now that we have landed this service again for our community, it is very important for our region to support the flight and fill the seats.”

The new flight marks the second time in two months that Reno-Tahoe International has announced non-stop daily service to a major hub airport.

Delta Air Lines will fly the route with a Boeing 737-800 with 160 seats. It will depart Reno at 12:55 p.m. and arrive in Minneapolis at 6:10 p.m. It will depart Minneapolis at 11:30 a.m. and arrive in Reno at 1:05 p.m.
