UPDATE: Forward progress of the fire was stopped just after 4:30 p.m.

Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice, which monitors fires in the region, reports that as of 3:20 p.m. the fire is 1/2 acre, per the National Interagency Fire Center. The fire has been designated the Basalite Fire.

Storey County Sheriff’s Office and the fire department are on scene of a brush fire Tuesday afternoon in the area of the Basalite Mine near Pine Nut Road in Storey County.

People should avoid the area. At this time, there is no threat to structures. The sheriff’s office will provide updates as they become available.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says both Lyon and Storey County 911 dispatch centers are aware of the brush fire Tuesday afternoon with smoke visible in the mountains north of Dayton. Multiple fire department resources are responding.
