The radio transmission towers located near the Carson City Public Works on Butti Way and Fairview Drive were demolished Friday as the city reclaims the land for unspecified future use. The pair of towers, built in 1954, stood 220 feet high and will be replaced by a single tower. The new tower will be relocated about 100 yards west of the current location to an adjacent property, a spokesperson for the radio station said.
Until the new tower has finished construction in approximately two weeks, 1300 AM KCMY will be off air and listeners can switch to FM 102.5 for alternative programming.
