A woman who has alleged she was sexually assaulted by entertainer Bill Cosby and her attorney, Gloria Allred, will go before the Nevada Legislature in Carson City on Friday in support of a bill that would eliminate the criminal statute of limitations for rape in Nevada.

The alleged victim will urge the law be changed because under current Nevada law it is too late for Cosby to be criminally prosecuted for what she alleges he did to her, according to a news release from Allred’s office.

Ms. Allred is testifying because she also represents a number of other women who allege that they were drugged and sexually assaulted by Cosby in Nevada, but who are also unable to either file a civil lawsuit against Cosby or have him criminally prosecuted because it is too late to do either under the existing statute of limitations, the release states.

The hearing will be the first time there has been a legislative effort to change the law anywhere in the United States to eliminate the statute of limitations in order to help rape victims since the Bill Cosby scandal returned to the news in November 2014, the release states.

The 8 a.m. hearing will be at 401 S. Carson Street in Carson City, Nev.

Allred has publicly challenged Cosby to agree not to assert the statute of limitations so that the alleged victims could have their day in court, but he has rejected her challenge and refused to waive it, the news release states.
