Carson City Press Release

On Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at about 2:31 PM, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to 555 S. Roop Street to assist the Fire Department with a report of smoke coming from an apartment.

Prior to law enforcement and the Fire Department’s arrival, property management personnel opened the front door and discovered heavy smoke inside the apartment. Once the smoke cleared, a deceased male with significant burns on his body was discovered inside the apartment.

The decedent, identified as 73-year-old John Lindley appears to have succumbed to a medical crisis while preparing a meal at his stove. After suffering a medical event, Mr. Lindley came to rest on top of the activated stove top where his clothing caught on fire.

The investigation is ongoing; however, there is no evidence or suspicion of foul play.
