Board to hear Budget Presentation for 2025-26 school year

The Carson City School District will be presenting its budget assumptions for the 2025-2026 school year. Chief Financial and Operations Officer Spencer Winward will be presenting the information.

Essentially, a budget assumption is an estimate or projection for all revenue, costs and other financial factors which takes into account program costs, capital projects in the works, grants, payroll, and more. It also projects market trends, or any political changes from state law or federal policies.

Each local government body is currently working on their budget assumptions and projections, which is part of the process before adopting the formal budget due later this year.

However, the presentation and/or supplemental information for the budget was not included in the agenda. We will update this story with the budget information when it is made available.

Policy Amendment

The Carson City School District will be discussing its proposed Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Security Policy.

The proposal is a draft amendment to policy no. 1065, which states it is an “important part of our efforts to create an environment in which to carry out the mission of the district,” and explains data loss can be caused by human error, hardware malfunction, natural disaster, security breach, etc. and may not be preventable.

The policy states that the IT Director will make reasonable efforts to implement and maintain appropriate ICT data and security measures, maintain confidentiality and availability of ICT, and maintain compliance with laws.

This agenda item is a textual amendment and does not substantially add anything to the policy.
