An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday evening at 6:10 p.m. in the 900 block of East Musser Street for suspicion of misdemeanor embezzlement, a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, the sheriff’s office was dispatched to a business in the 3100 block of Market Street on a report of employee embezzlement.
At the scene store officials provided law enforcement with statements and video footage of the incidents, which showed an employee making false transactions at a register and then handing the stolen amount to a friend nearby.
A total of $298 had been stolen in a series of separate register transactions, the arrest report said.
The 17-year-old employee in question had fully confessed to the theft during an interview with store officials, the report said, and a parent was contacted to give law enforcement permission to interview the suspect.
During the interview with a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy, the minor suspect confessed to bragging about the theft to a friend, who asked to get in on the scheme, the report said.
On Jan. 29 the suspect involved his 18-year-old friend in a transaction theft in which more than $98 was stolen from the cash register, the report said.
The accomplice in the theft met the suspect at the register where the phony transaction took place and the 18-year-old pocketed the stolen money.
Law enforcement arrested the 17-year-old employee prior to contacting the 18-year-old accomplice. The sheriff’s deputy arrived at the 18-year-old’s residence and spoke with his parents, who advised he was currently at work. The deputy asked the parents to bring their son to the sheriff’s office for an interview.
The parents cooperated and transported the 18-year-old accomplice to the sheriff’s office, where he was cooperative with authorities and confessed to his part in the fraudulent transaction.
He was then arrested and booked in to the Carson City Jail. Bail: $1,000.
In other arrests:
— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning at 12:41 a.m. in the 3300 block of U.S. Highway 50 East for gross misdemeanor suspicion of second offense driving under the influence of alcohol, a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, the deputy was traveling behind the suspect vehicle from the intersection of Airport Road and Highway 50 East. The suspect vehicle was observed being unable to maintain a lane of travel, nearly stopped at the intersection and made a very wide right hand turn south onto Airport Road and crossing the travel lanes again.
At this point, the deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon making contact with the driver, the deputy observed a stong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle, the report said.
The driver confessed to having too much to drink, the deputy’s report said, and told law enforcement that this was his second DUI offense. Field sobriety tests were performed, indicating impairment, and a preliminary breath test showed breath alcohol content of 0.138.
The suspect was then arrested and transported to the Carson City Jail. Bail: $2,500.
— A 37 year-old transient was arrested Friday afternoon at 3:31 p.m. in the 500 block of East William Street for misdemeanor petit larceny and misdemeanor violation of bail conditions, a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy said.
The male suspect, already active within the Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing, was taken into custody at a business for shoplifting. The offense was a violation of his bail conditions for a previous incident involving petit larceny.
According to the arrest report, the suspect was observed by store security attempting to leave the store with two bottles of liquor without paying. Bail: $25,000.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office took the suspect into custody at the request of Alternative Sentencing, which added to the charges already against him. Bail: $3,000.
— A 21 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. in the 900 block of East Musser Street on multiple outstanding warrants, a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy said, including felony eluding and misdemeanor hit and run.
According to the arrest report, Alfredo Zendejas-Frausto had arrived at the sheriff’s office to turn himself in on outstanding warrants. A records check confirmed the active warrants out of the Carson City Justice Court.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Carson City Jail. Bail: $15,000.
— A 60-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday afternoon at 5:06 p.m. in the 1600 block of Airport Road on an active bench warrant out of Carson City Justice Court for a contempt of court offense, a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, the sheriff’s deputy initially responded to a dispute call at 4:35 p.m. in the 1600 block of Airport Road. The reporting party told law enforcement that his neighbor had driven into his bedroom wall, causing visible damage to the inside wall and outside of the apartment.
The deputy then made contact with the suspect, who dispatch confirmed had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. Law enforcement then took the suspect into custody and transported her to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $491.
— A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday afternoon at 2:31 p.m. in the 900 block of East Musser Street on an active bench warrant for misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence out of the Carson City Justice Court, a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, the suspect had arrived at the sheriff’s office to turn himself in an outstanding warrant, which was confirmed by records check. He was taken into custody at that point and booked into the Carson City Jail. Bail: $3,000.
— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday afternoon at 3:49 p.m. in the 3300 block of Market Street on an outstanding warrant out of the Reno Justice Court for misdemeanor failure to appear, a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, the suspect was identified in a business by the deputy, who was conducting an unrelated check of the business premises.
The deputy visually identified the suspect observed in a corner of the business and made contact. A records check through dispatch confirmed the active warrant and the suspect was taken into custody at that point. He was transported to the Carson City Jail where was booked on the warrant. Bail: $1,000.
— A-27-year-old transient was booked Thursday, 8:30 a.m. into Carson City Jail on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Aug. 3, 2016 out of the Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 4:50 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street for misdemeanor suspicion of petit larceny. According to the arrest report, the man, later determined to be intoxicated with a preliminary breath test, attempted to steal a bottle of rum and a pack of sausage, concealing them in his pants. He was caught after a brief chase by loss prevention. Bail: $352.
— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday in the 1200 block of South Carson Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and speeding. According to the arrest report, at 8:02 p.m. a deputy on patrol observed a vehicle traveling east on King Street, going too fast for conditions due to emergency vehicles in the area working to curb flood waters. The vehicle continued, going 35 mph in a 25 zone, making every effort to swerve toward large pools of water. The vehicle then turned south onto Carson Street where the driver was paced going 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.
The driver was stopped at Carson and 10th Street. He showed signs of intoxication, the arrest report states. The man admitted to smoking marijuana and had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. He refused to take a preliminary breath test and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Bail: $1,229.
— A 78-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday, 8:21 a.m. in the area of Highway 50 and Saliman for suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a vehicle accident and a possible intoxicated driver.
Deputies spoke with the woman who showed signs of impairment. She admitted to consuming three glasses of wine and stated she did not know what happened. She had been following the vehicle in front of her too closely, which caused a rear-end accident, the arrest report states.
The woman consented to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of intoxication. At jail she agreed to a breath test with results of .147 and .141. Bail: $1,137.
A Portland, Oregon woman was arrested Friday, 1:50 a.m. in the 1400 block of South Carson Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, driving with an out-of-state suspicion and improper use of registration.
According to the arrest report, a deputy observed the woman drive in the right paved shoulder of South Carson Street for approximately 1,000 feet, then made a turn without using turn signals. A deputy approached the driver and could smell a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. She stated she had three glasses of wine. A records check showed she had a suspended drivers license in Texas. She consented to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She blew a .132 on her preliminary breath test and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail she gave evidentiary breath samples of .099 and .097. Bail: $3,411.
