The Carson City School District Board of Trustees is accepting applications to fill a vacancy for a representative in District 5. Citizens interested in applying must reside within District 5. Individuals may confirm the exact district boundaries by contacting the Carson City Elections Office, 885 E. Musser St., Carson City, at 775-887-2087.

Applicants must submit a letter of interest and a resume, no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2026, to Renae Cortez, executive assistant for the Carson City School District, 1402 W. King Street, P.O. Box 603, Carson City, Nev. 89702.

This position is for a Public Office, and any information provided in the letter and resume, including the applicant’s name, address and telephone numbers, will be available to the public.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  1. The applicant must be a qualified elector, at least 18 years of age and reside within District 5, as provided in NRS 293.485.
  2. Upon his or her appointment, before taking office, the applicant must take and subscribe the oaths prescribed by statute and file the same with the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

A person appointed to fill the vacancy must meet the foregoing qualifications and shall serve until the next general election. Pursuant to NRS 386.320(2), trustees receive a salary of $400 per month.

The Board of Trustees plans to interview eligible candidates during their meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Only those applicants who have submitted a letter of interest and resume and who appear for an interview will be considered.

Following the interview process, the Board of Trustees may make a selection, defer the selection or re-advertise for the position.
