On Monday, February 10, 2025 at around 5 p.m., Lyon County Dispatch advised a domestic situation was underway involving 38-year-old Haylie Baggett. Baggett was experiencing a mental health episode and had locked herself in her home in the 3200 block of Spring Circle Drive in Silver Springs, barring the reporting resident from entry.

Deputies arrived on scene around 5:30 p.m. and learned Baggett had barricaded herself and her three-year-old child inside a bedroom in the home. The deputy on scene ran the names of both adult subjects through dispatch, and then forced entry into the room out of fear for the child’s safety. The deputy was unaware Bagget was armed, according to Lyon County Sheriff Brad Pope.

Approximately four minutes from the time the deputy arrived on scene, Baggett shot her three-year-old child and turned the gun on herself.

Timeline

The call was described as a verbal domestic between a female subject and a male subject, and the woman had a “96 issue” which is a police code for a mental subject. However, A Mobile Outreach Safety Team (MOST) was not called to the scene.

Deputies arrived on scene sometime between 5:27 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. according to radio chatter and confirmed as the correct approximate timeline by Lyon County Sheriff Brad Pope.

Between 5:34 p.m. and 5:36 p.m., the deputy on scene called for shots fired involving a child.

According to the press release issued by the LCSO, prior to shots being fired, deputies forced entry into the room, which occurred at some point between arriving on scene at approximately 5:30 p.m., and when the shots were fired around 5:34 p.m.

At 5:36 p.m., medical was dispatched to the scene.

At 5:37 p.m., dispatch confirmed Baggett shot her three-year-old child. Personnel on scene advised the child had a gunshot wound to the head but was still breathing.

At 5:38 p.m., dispatch was asked to call Care Flight.

At around 5:45 p.m., an update was provided by dispatch that Care Flight’s ETA to arrive at the Silver Springs Airport would be 6:05 p.m.

At around 5:50 p.m., personnel on scene asked Care Flight to be rerouted to Spring Circle Drive.

Care Flight landed at Spring Circle Drive around 6:04 p.m. and the child was transported from the scene. The mother was confirmed deceased on scene.

The child was later declared deceased, although the time of death was not provided.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Statement

On Tuesday afternoon, Lyon County Sheriff Brad Pope issued the following statement:

On Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at approximately 5 p.m, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of domestic violence at a residence in the 3200 block of Spring Circle in Silver Springs, Nev.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a male subject and learned that 38-year-old Silver Springs resident Haylie Baggett had barricaded herself in a bedroom with her three-year-old child. Deputies attempted to establish communication with Baggett through the closed door, urging her to exit the room safely with the child.

After several minutes without cooperation from Baggett and fearing for the safety of the child, deputies made the decision to force entry into the bedroom. Unbeknownst to the deputies, Baggett was armed with a handgun. As they entered, Baggett shot the child then immediately turned the weapon on herself and took her own life.

Deputies immediately began lifesaving efforts on the child, at the same time summoning emergency medical personnel from the Central Lyon County Fire Department and Careflight. The child was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for further treatment via Careflight, but was later pronounced deceased.
