CARSON CITY — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada celebrated the grand re-opening and ribbon cutting of its new secure entrance on Wednesday.

Katie Leao, chief professional officer for the Club, said the new entrance will offer a protected entry and exit point for members, parents, vendors and community members, as well as provide broad reaching benefits.

“This entryway will be inviting, secure and provide a more efficient system for the check in and checkout process,” Leao said “Additional security measures will give us the ability to have a 360-degree view of daily operations at the Club.”

The $150,000 project was funded through a combination of local donors, community partners, and a $50,000 Renovation Across the Nation grant from the Lowe’s Foundation. The William N. Pennington Foundation’s grant upgraded security measures at the entrance including a state-of-the-art security system with cameras, a monitoring system, improved two-way communication devices and a lock down system that removes direct line of sight into the club and offices.

Through this program, Lowe’s has donated $5 million to Boys & Girls Clubs across 50 states in the past two years. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada was the only club chosen in Nevada to receive the grant.

The Club is located at 1870 Russell Way in Carson City.
