Josephine Ann (Frye) Perrine passed from this life to her heavenly home in the early morning hours of February 1, 2026, in Reno, Nevada. Josephine lived in Carson City since 1969. She was born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, on December 23, 1945.
Josephine attended various schools in Pennsylvania while growing up, attending both Hopewell High School and graduating from Freedom Area High School in the class of 1963.
She was active in the school band, playing the clarinet, and was a majorette. After graduating high school, she worked as a switchboard operator and as a model.
Josephine first married in 1967 and had two children, a daughter, Dani Jo, and a son, Michael Shane.
While raising her children, she was actively involved in their education at St. Teresa of Avila in Carson City. She went on to work for the Carson School District, primarily at Seeliger Elementary School.
In mid-life, she returned to college and graduated from UNR with an MA in Arts, an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy, and was a licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor.
She was a member of MENSA, Phi Kappa Phi, and Psi Chi honor societies.
Josephine launched a second career providing counseling services initially at Reno Behavioral Health.
Following her retirement from the State of Nevada, Josephine went on to establish Sierra Nevada Counseling in Carson City, providing care for the community. She received senatorial recognition for her dedication to northern Nevada mental health.
In 2010, Josephine became a published author, having written “The Saber-Toothed Tiger: The One Reason Women Stay with Abusive Men”.
She was active in her chosen career until a few weeks before her passing. In her private life, she enjoyed spending many hours with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed travel, having visited the Vatican and taken a tour across Europe. She particularly enjoyed visiting Italy. She fought a short but brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
Josephine is survived by her widower, Jerry Cinani, whom she wed in 2009; her children, Dani Jo Black and Shane Nollsch and their spouses; her grandchildren, Constance, Dean, Dalton, and Tristan; her great-grandchildren, Jensen, Easton, Winston, and Elizabeth; and her siblings, Georgia and Donald.
Josephine was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Lucille Frye, and sister Barbara Hopkins.
All who knew and loved Josephine are invited to attend her visitation, which will be held at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley on February 12 from 4-7 p.m.
Funeral mass will be on Friday, February 13 at St. Teresa of Avila at 11 a.m. with graveside committal service at Lone Mountain Cemetery immediately afterwards at 1 p.m.
The family requests that floral arrangements and memorial tokens be sent directly to Walton’s Chapel no later than February 12, 2026.
