In a brief ceremony Tuesday, Carson High School celebrated senior student-athletes who will continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level following graduation.
Carson High School seniors who have signed or committed to intercollegiate athletic programs listed below by their first name followed by last name (alphabetized).
Carson High School Senior Athlete Recognition 2024-2025

- Addison Morgan, Soccer for Bushnell University, NAIA
- Ellan Ortiz (Davidson Academy), Soccer for Wittenberg University, NCAA DIII
- Kael Walt, Soccer for Eastern Oregon, NAIA
“These dedicated athletes have demonstrated exceptional talent, hard work and perseverance throughout their high school careers, both in the classroom and in their respective sports; and they have set an excellent example for future athletes to follow,” said Carson High School Athletic Director Thomas Reymer. “We congratulate them on their outstanding accomplishments and wish them the best of luck as they continue their athletic careers at the next level.”
Additionally, Carson High School is proud to announce the selection of Steve Nelms as the new head football coach.

Coach Nelms has spent the last three years teaching Physical Education (P.E.) and coaching football and track at Douglas High School. Prior to his work at Douglas County School District, Nelms served as the dean of students for Carson Middle School (2020-2022) and P.E. teacher at Carson Middle School (2016-2020).
He also held coaching positions including the head track coach and a varsity football assistant coach for Carson High School (2016-2022). Before moving to Carson City, Nelms taught P.E. at Southside Elementary (2014-2015) in Spring Creek, Nev. and completed his student teaching at Sage Elementary and Spring Creek High School (2014) in Elko, Nev.
He competed collegiately in football and track at the University of Jamestown (2015) in Jamestown, N.D. where he earned a bachelor’s in Physical Education with an emphasis in Exercise Science. He later earned his master’s in Educational Administration (2018) from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz.
