Just after the lunch hour at Carson High School, hundreds of students holding signs, American flags and speakers staged a walk out protesting the recent killings by federal agents, as well as what they say is overreach by the US government.

Initially, students planned to march to the Capitol building to stage their protest, but after receiving threats organizers changed tactics to keep the protest closer to campus out of safety concerns according to a parent who told Carson Now of the change.

Contrary to misinformation spread online, the protest was student organized and student attended; no teachers or staff joined students — and according to one source who did not wish to be named, doing so would jeopardize their employment contract whether they agreed with students or not.

The district issued a statement on parent square the day before informing parents attendance would be taken.

Multiple law enforcement units were on scene from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office to keep students safe.
