The husband-and-wife author team of Sharon Marie Provost and Stephen H. Provost of Carson City have released a two-volume set of dark love stories, Shades of Love, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Stephen penned Volume 1, and Sharon wrote Volume 2. They have dedicated the books to each other.
These are the fifth and sixth installments in the couple’s Nightmare’s Eve series of short-story collections, which spotlight horror stories and psychological thrillers. Shades of Love contains everything from ghost stories to stalkers to tales of bittersweet love.
How far you would go to meet the perfect man? Would you travel through time or cross the boundaries between life and death to find your true love? Would you bring your dearly departed back from the dead, or invoke an ancient goddess to render you desirable? Love can be an addiction, a trap, a yearning, or an aching for what once was. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you might get. You might wind up trapped for eternity, abandoned at death’s doorstep, consumed by need, or lost somewhere in time.
All these themes are explored in Shades of Love. Other books in the Nightmare’s Eve series include one by Stephen (the original Nightmare’s Eve), one by Sharon (Shadow’s Gate), and two collaborations: All Hallows’ Nightmare’s Eve and Christmas Nightmare’s Eve.
Sharon left her longtime position as office manager at Timberline Animal Hospital last year to become a full-time author while battling Stage 4 cancer. In that brief period, while on chemotherapy, she has produced her debut novel, a short-story collection, a novella, and four collaborations with her husband. The novel, Dark Arts, has received rave reviews for its detailed and chilling story of a serial killer who turns his victims into works of art… and the police detective determined to stop him. She and Stephen are now working on their first full-length novel collaboration, a noir thriller titled Azrael’s Assassin, which is due for release in February.
Stephen is a former reporter and columnist with more than 30 years of experience at daily newspapers. Over the past 11 years, he has written more than 50 books and is the founder of Dragon Crown Books, which he and Sharon run together in Carson City. In addition to six novels and three novellas, he has produced an extensive collection of nonfiction works on topics ranging from Nevada’s pioneer days to the history of retail in the United States. He has written more than 20 books on U.S. history in the 20th century focusing on highways, towns, and culture.
All their books are available on Amazon and at many Northern Nevada stores. Retail partners include the Nevada State Museum, Sparks Heritage Museum, Luminary Books in Gardnerville, Grassroots Books in Reno, the Flag Store in Sparks, the Carson City Legislature shop, Carson City Chamber of Commerce, and the Purple Avocado in Carson City. You can follow both authors on Facebook and BlueSky.
