A 25-year-old woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony child abuse or neglect after allegedly leaving her toddler in a cold vehicle for an extended period of time, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
Allison Skyla Lennon was taken into custody following an investigation. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched at 8:11 a.m. to the 3300 block of Imperial Way in regards to a child in need. The reporting party advised he had woken up by a baby crying in a car. He advised the windows were down and nobody was around.
Deputies arrived and heard a child crying that was coming from a vehicle as the RP had described. There was nobody in the area or around the vehicle. The car appeared to be sitting there for an extended period of time as it was cold to the touch and water from the exhaust was frozen on the ground, the report states. The front passenger window was rolled all the way down and the trunk was partially open.
A deputy observed the child and later learned they were 1 year and 11 months old. The toddler was sitting strapped in a car seat and visibly crying, the report states. The child’s hands, feet and cheeks were red in color and cold to the touch, the report states. The toddler also had abrasions to her face but they appeared from a prior incident, the report states.
The deputy opened the door and while checking, the car alarm went off for approximately a few minutes and no one exited their apartment to claim the car was theirs. The car alarm went off a second time a short time later and no one, again, had come outside, the report states.
Carson City Fire Department responded to the scene to check on the toddler. CCFD personnel wrapped the child in blankets and applied warming pouches and then transported the toddler to Carson Tahoe Hospital. While on scene, Carson City Dispatch advised the registered owner of the vehicle was Allison Lennon, 25, and was associated to an apartment, the report states.
After two knocking attempts, the woman came to the door to speak. She was visibly tired as if she had just woken up. The deputy asked for her name and she confirmed the correct name. The deputy asked if she owned the vehicle in question. She confirmed she did and that it was parked on the bottom of the parking lot. When the deputy asked if she had a daughter and where she was at the moment, the woman began to look around frantically and became upset. She was pacing around the apartment, looking around. She began to cry and asked where her daughter was, the report states.
The deputy advised that her daughter was safe and being taken to the hospital. The woman told deputies she was the only one in the apartment and she had gotten home around 9 p.m. after a party for the child. She advised she was currently staying with a friend, but that he was currently at work. She later told deputies he usually leaves for work around 4 a.m. and she believed he left for work that morning.
She stated she didn’t drink or do any drugs the night prior and wasn’t currently under the influence. She stated she had no clue how or why her child was in her car but advised she had “a lot of enemies,” the report states. She advised the child had been sick and was throwing up the day prior and wasn’t doing well. She stated she believed the child was with her most of the night and was sleeping in the bed with her because of her being sick, but doesn’t know how she was in the car, the report states.
After speaking with the woman she was placed in handcuffs and arrested for suspicion of felony child abuse or neglect. The condition of the child after the arrest wasn’t included in the report. Bail: $40,000.
