Douglas County Manager Jim Nichols, who has held the position since fall 2014 and the Douglas County Board of Commissioners are parting ways. The manager and the board will discuss a “mutual separation agreement” next week at Lake Tahoe.

“We appreciate Jim’s service and commitment to Douglas County for the past year,” said Doug Johnson, chairman to the board. “We are working with Mr. Nichols to develop an agreement that is fair to both parties.”

County Commissioners will consider the agreement when they meet Jan. 21 at Stateline, Lake Tahoe.

If the Board approves the proposed separation agreement, Mr. Nichols’ last date of employment will be Jan. 29, 2016. A transition plan for an Interim County Manager will also be discussed at the Jan. 21, 2016 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners.

“I appreciate the opportunity afforded to me by the Board of County Commissioners. I have enjoyed my time in Douglas County and the great people who make up this community,” said Nichols. “I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the incredible work of the county staff who have helped make the past year such a memorable one.”

Nichols became the County Manager in September of 2014. Nichols is the former Las Vegas Deputy City Manager for two years and most recently served as the Assistant City Manager in Midland, Texas, before coming to Douglas County.

Former Carson City Manager Larry Werner served as Douglas County’s last Interim County Manager following the departure of Steve Mokrohisky in April 2014. No word yet as to whether Werner has been asked or is being considered to step in and fill the interim shoes again.
