On Friday, Jan. 3 at 2 a.m. Carson City Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies were dispatched to the 2800 block of Carmine Street for a report of the sound of shots being fired.

When deputies arrived on scene, they noticed multiple expended ammunition cartridges in the front patio area of the suspect residence.

Deputies ultimately contacted three occupants inside of the suspect’s residence. The suspect in the shooting was identified as Francisco Gutierrez, 28, of Carson City. Francisco was initially arrested on a probation violation.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office detectives arrived on scene to further investigate the incident. During the course of the investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence. During the search of the residence, detectives located several firearms (one being a short-barreled rifle and one semi-automatic pistol with an obliterated serial number), ammunition, ballistic armor and other tactical equipment.

Detectives learned that Franciso was prohibited to possessing firearms. Francisco’s wife, identified as Wendy Gutierrez, 42, of Carson City, was also interviewed. Wendy admitted to purchasing the firearms located inside of the residence.

Detectives developed probable cause to arrest Francisco and Wendy on the following charges.

Francisco Gutierrez
— Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
— Possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol -Discharging a firearm within city limits
— Possession of a short-barreled rifle
— Possession of a firearm w/ an obliterated serial number

Total bail $20,000.

Wendy Torres
— Possession of a short barreled-rifle
— Possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Total bail $5,000.
