Today marks the opening of filling for this year’s election for Carson City Justice of the Peace, and the current holder of that office John Tatro was the first to file.
He also issued the following press release:
Judge John Tatro will seek re-election in 2012. Tatro has been the Carson City Justice of the Peace/Municipal Court Judge in Department II since 1995. If re-elected, Judge Tatro commits to serving the full 6 year term. Judge Tatro has accomplished much in the last 15 years such as establishing Mental Health Court, streamlining the court processes, implementing on-line video arraignments, improving access for victims in need of protective orders, and expanding court hours. Judge Tatro is currently President of the Nevada Judges of Limited Jurisdiction, an association consisting of 86 judges from across Nevada. Tatro was previously voted Judge of the Year by his peers, and is currently a member of the Supreme Court’s State Judicial Council, and has received the Distinguished Jurist Award for judicial education.
Judge Tatro feels that in order to be a good judge, he has to be involved in his community. John Tatro has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada for 16 years (past President), member of the Rotary Club of Carson City for 16 years (past President), founding and current member of Partnership Carson City, a grassroots organization to curb illicit drug use in our community, and has served on the Circles of Support Board, a group that is striving to end poverty, one family at a time. Judge Tatro has also served as a coach for soccer, basketball and baseball, as well as a volunteer ski instructor for the Carson City Recreation program for over 10 years.
