A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 900 block of Ladera Drive on New Year’s Eve night for burglary of a motor vehicle, battery with a deadly weapon, and burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon, all felonies.

According to the arrest report, John Michael Patchell was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the area on a report of a vehicle burglary just after 9 p.m.

A witness stated she had walked outside and saw someone in her family member’s truck. She said she thought it was the family member, but when she called the family member’s name, the suspect started walking away.

The witness said her husband grabbed the suspect, and the suspect “pulled a knife” on him and dropped a bottle of vodka. The witness said the suspect picked up the bottle again and then started walking away again.

Dispatch advised the suspect was described as a white male with a beard wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans; the arresting deputy reported they spotted a man, later identified as Patchell, matching the description walking south on Airport Road.

The reporting deputy said they turned around but lost sight of the suspect, as he had turned onto a walking path on Airport Road.

After a short pursuit, the man followed the deputy’s commands and was placed into handcuffs.

The deputy patted the man down and located a knife in his front pants pockets along with a bottle of vodka.

Later, deputies located an additional two knives, one of which was “open” in Patchell’s pocket. Patchell agreed to provide a preliminary breath test, which resulted in a BrAC of 0.259.

The jail requested a medical clearance before taking custody of him, so Patchell was transported to the hospital to be cleared.

He was later returned to the jail and booked on the three felony charges.

Bail: $90,000

Drive-thru DUI

A 61-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the drive-thru fast food restaurant in the 1100 block of S. Carson Street for suspected DUI.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the restaurant on report of a customer in the drive-thru line who had been “driving on the curb” and appeared intoxicated enough that she could not “order properly.”

Upon arrival, deputies found the vehicle was still in the drive-thru lane. Deputies observed the vehicle make a right turn onto S. Carson Street. The vehicle crossed over the yellow center divider line, began speeding at 44 mph in a 35 mph zone, and drifted within its lane.

Deputies stopped the vehicle, which pulled onto a side street, and witnessed the vehicle “lightly strike a curb” while parking.

On contact with the woman, deputies noted they could immediately smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle, and reported her speech was thick and slurred, along with displaying red watery eyes. They said she had a “difficult time multitasking,” and said she had consumed two beers “earlier in the day” at a local bar.

She agreed to field sobriety tests, and showed all signs of impairment on the tests she was able to complete; deputies terminated the tests out of safety concerns when she displayed significant balance issues, according to the report.

She provided a preliminary breath test which resulted in a BrAC of .183.

She was transported to the jail where she provided a secondary preliminary breath test showing a .304 BrAC. Due to the high level of intoxication, she was transported to the hospital to be medically cleared.

She was later re-transported to the jail and booked on DUI first. Bail: $1,137.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies reportedly discovered a baggie containing methamphetamine residue, a pill identified as Alprazolam (Xanax) in a drawer under the passenger seat. The man said he didn’t know that the pill had been there, and that he did not have a prescription for it.

While speaking with deputies, he told them he also had a methamphetamine pipe in his pocket, and deputies located an additional baggie with suspected methamphetamine residue inside his wallet.

The man was arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating an unregistered vehicle. Bail was set at $3,734.

Bail was set at $1,050.
