Carson City Mayor, attorney and Vietnam veteran Robert L. "Bob" Crowell died overnight. He was 74.

Robert L. "Bob" Crowell was a native Nevadan, born in the mining town of Tonopah and raised in Carson City. An attorney by profession, Bob was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees.

University of Nevada, Reno Extension continues its online town hall and webinar series next week to assist small-business owners. With many businesses still struggling due to COVID-19, some are having trouble maintaining good credit or paying vendors.

The 2020 Carson City Jazz and Beyond Festival continues its series of live-streamed, streamed, and virtual events through Sept. 27, 2020. The next event, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m., features the Bill Rose and Laurie Blue, a singer-songwriter duo based in Northern Virginia.

They wore pajamas, were wrapped in blankets, and carried cups of Dutch Bros and Starbucks as they gathered to celebrate the beginning of their senior year and the almost end of the soothing summer weather. The Class of 2020-2021, while practicing social distancing and wearing the latest fashion in face masks, gathered together at 6:00 a.m. Sept. 4 on the bleachers of the CHS football field to watch their sun rise.

Join Nevada Humanities and Carson City Library in welcoming the award winning author and journalist, Jessica Bruder for a discussion of her 2020 Nevada Reads book, "Nomadland: Surviving America in the 21st Century."

Nevada Democrats have, for years, been fine-tuning their political machine. Two years ago was, perhaps, their best proof of concept. A 25-year-old Reno man was arrested Sunday night in the area of Fairview and Roop streets for three failure to appear warrants out of Carson City, a contempt of court warrant out of Reno Township, and for suspicion of reckless driving, speeding more than 35 mph over the limit and driving with a suspended license.
