During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

The Carson City School District will be holding its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

A discussion and possible action will be on the table for proposed capital projects as supported by the facilities master plan committee, including construction of classrooms at Eagle Valley Middle School intended to alleviate student overcrowding at Carson Middle School, in an estimated amount not to exceed $8.2 million, which will be financed by the sale of the 2019B school bonds.

They’re having a real impact on learning and discovery. I want to learn what Carson City wants done. The direction of the library needs to be a conversation.”

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the final V&T Railway train rides of the 2019 season, the 27th annual Carson City Pumpkin Patch at Seeliger Elementary School, fundraisers around town, coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum, comedy at the Carson Nugget and more!

The Friends of the Carson City Library, with the library board and staff, are offering a meet and greet with the new library director, Tod Colegrove, on Friday, October 11 from 4:30p.m. to 6 p.m.

No RSVP is required to meet the new director. Those interested should simply head over to the library digitorium located at 900 N. Roop St. for an opportunity to get to know Colegrove more over coffee and a treat.

The finalists for the director of the Carson City Library position will be interviewed during a board meeting Friday evening, with a portion dedicated to questions from the public.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Tourism, also known as TravelNevada, has promoted Christian Passink to director of Sales and Industry Partners. In this position, Passink will oversee all efforts to promote the Silver State to international visitors as well as supervise TravelNevada’s rural outreach and grant programs.

Feedback from the community will play an integral role in the selection of the Carson City Library’s new director.

“Trustees will be using the interviews and the community input from the meet and greet to select the library director during the May 30 meeting,” said Interim Director Diane Baker. “We appreciate all the input we’ve received from everyone involved.”

More than a dozen community members participated in Friday’s meet and greet, where they asked questions of the three finalists vying for the director position.

Four finalists have been selected for the position of director of the Carson City Library. The public will have an opportunity to meet the candidates and provide feedback to the hiring committee during a meet and greet Thursday.

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City recently appointed Benjamin Korn as its new Executive Director.

"We were delighted to extend an offer to Mr. Korn because he had extensive fundraising experience as well as an MA in Non Profit Arts Management" says Casey Gilles, Board President. "The museum's Board of Directors felt these two attributes made him an ideal candidate that would chart a new course for the museum involving increased resource development, enhanced constituent engagement, and a focus on revising the museum's collection."

(Reno, Nev.) – Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval’s former deputy chief of staff, Ann Wilkinson, has been named the new National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges’ (NCJFCJ) director of human resources.

Most recently, Wilkinson served Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval’s administration as an agency executive and as a senior advisor. In her role as deputy chief of staff, Wilkinson’s work focused on healthcare policy and serving as the Governor’s liaison on health and human service initiatives.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Board of the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange completed final interviews Thursday afternoon and unanimously selected Bruce Gilbert of Addison, Texas.

Carson City Public Works Director Andrew Burnham announced his retirement effective June 2. Burnham has served as Public Works Director since 2000.

To facilitate an easy transition, Burnham will step down and serve as the Deputy Public Works Director until his retirement date.

Sena Loyd, who is the current technology trainer at Carson City Library, was selected Thursday as the new director.

The Carson City Library Board of Trustees held the interviews from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the new library director in Carson City. Loyd replaces former Carson City Library Director Sara Jones, who took a job earlier this year as Marin County Director of Library Services in California.

Luana has extensive administrative and bookkeeping experience and has taught in the public schools for 12 years. Lu received her Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Elementary Education and English Literature in Minnesota and holds a current Nevada State Teaching License as well as a Master’s Degree in Computer Education which she received in California.

CARSON CITY – Richard Combs, most recently an Assembly fiscal analyst and member of the Legislative Counsel Bureau staff since 1994, was unanimously supported today by the Legislative Commission as the new director of the agency.
