Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. As closures are announced please visit carson.org/covid19 for information and updates about government services.

In response to health concerns from COVID-19 and recommendations from the governor's office, the Carson City Library is canceling all programs until April 6 or until the State Medical Officer evaluates the public health risk and determines it is safe to resume normal operations. At this time public computers and meeting rooms are unavailable. All homebound service and outreach activities are suspended.

All school, district, and non-district sponsored athletics, extra-curricular activities, assemblies, concerts, practices, and events are suspended effective Monday, March 16, 2020 until further notice. This presentation is in honor of Women's History Month and the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Ammendment. Led by Deanna Beachley, this presentation traces the campaign and strategies employed in the Nevada suffrage campaign, especially on the role of the Nevada Equal Franchise Society and the efforts of Anne Martin and others in the last years of the campaign.

The Friends of the Carson City Library received a donation from the Southwest Gas Foundation for $2,850 to develop the library’s creative learning department for school-aged children, including Makerspace abilities.

Heading into Tuesday, sunny skies and more springlike weather are ahead before active weather patterns start up again later in the week. Activities lined up around the capital city include morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered. You can join true crime, paranormal writer Janice Oberding at Nevada State Library and Archives for a brown bag luncheon. There's a meeting of the Carson Fly Fishing Club at the sheriff's office, a paint and sip night at Living the Good Life and you can join Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee for a 'Fate & Fortune' evening of music and poetry. Carson City Library Director Dr. Tod Colegrove is the new president-elect of the Nevada Library Association (NLA), voted in at the turn of the year and assuming his new role as president in 2021.

Carson City Attorney Day Williams has announced that he will run for Assembly District 40, which includes Carson City and a portion of southeast Washoe County. He supports constitutional rights, measures to improve the economy and create jobs, and education that meets today’s needs.

The American Library Association honored Carson City Library and its cohorts for 2019 advocacy efforts, helping restore federal library funding after it was proposed to be eliminated for the third time last spring.

The Nevada State Archives is providing a free basic preservation workshop on March 12, 2020 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The training will cover preserving documents and photos, storage methods for various types of records, as well as information about electronic records. No previous experience is required; this training is open to anyone who might be interested. The training will be held at the Nevada State Library and Archives Building, 100 N. Stewart Street, Carson City.

The first Monday of March should bring clearing skies and sunshine after a weekend of wild weather. Activities include a discussion and documentary viewing regarding the high cost of pharmaceutical drugs, plus Read Across America storytime for young children at the Carson City Library, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Local author, Janice Oberding, will be the featured speaker for the March Nevada in Small Bites brown bag lunch. Aside from those who were incarcerated there, she is one of only a few people who have spent an entire night at Alcatraz.

Hello to everyone in Carson City. My name is Destiny Hernandez, and I am a senior at Carson High School. Just like all of the other seniors here at the school, I am working on my Senior Project, a graduation requirement, in order to benefit not only myself but also those animals in the community who need a home.

This year March 6 is National Employee Appreciation Day, and anyone looking to have headshot portraits done — or employers looking to give something extra to employees — can submit a request to have photos taken Friday.

More springlike weather around the capital city is ahead Ash Wednesday with a daytime high near 65. Events include a Real ID town hall meeting at the Carson City DMV, the economic impact of pro soccer in Northern Nevada will be featured at NNDA's Business Edge at Casino Fandango, Carson City Schools offers the first of three pre-kindergarten programs for parents and will also host a separate strategic plan meeting. Meanwhile, Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness hosts a yoga class, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

Time flies as the sun shines going into the last Monday in February. Expect daytime highs around 60. Activities include are a political luncheon with Clint Koble, a primary candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, plus yoga, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.
