Carson City outlines department closures, services available in response to coronavirus threat

Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. As closures are announced please visit carson.org/covid19 for information and updates about government services.

Carson City Library remains open with limited services, programs canceled

In response to health concerns from COVID-19 and recommendations from the governor's office, the Carson City Library is canceling all programs until April 6 or until the State Medical Officer evaluates the public health risk and determines it is safe to resume normal operations. At this time public computers and meeting rooms are unavailable. All homebound service and outreach activities are suspended.

Carson City Library presents How Women Won The Right to Vote

This presentation is in honor of Women's History Month and the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Ammendment. Led by Deanna Beachley, this presentation traces the campaign and strategies employed in the Nevada suffrage campaign, especially on the role of the Nevada Equal Franchise Society and the efforts of Anne Martin and others in the last years of the campaign.

Southwest Gas donates nearly $3,000 to Friends of the Carson City Library

The Friends of the Carson City Library received a donation from the Southwest Gas Foundation for $2,850 to develop the library’s creative learning department for school-aged children, including Makerspace abilities.

Carson City Attorney Day Williams has announced that he will run for Assembly District 40, which includes Carson City and a portion of southeast Washoe County. He supports constitutional rights, measures to improve the economy and create jobs, and education that meets today’s needs.

Carson City Library efforts help secure federal funding for libraries


The American Library Association honored Carson City Library and its cohorts for 2019 advocacy efforts, helping restore federal library funding after it was proposed to be eliminated for the third time last spring.

The Nevada State Archives is providing a free basic preservation workshop on March 12, 2020 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The training will cover preserving documents and photos, storage methods for various types of records, as well as information about electronic records. No previous experience is required; this training is open to anyone who might be interested. The training will be held at the Nevada State Library and Archives Building, 100 N. Stewart Street, Carson City.

Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.
