The teachers of CHS are asking if this is still true? Of course it is. Men, women, and children of Carson City are encouraged to purchase a T-shirt to support both breast cancer awareness and CHS teacher Kelly Gustafson, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Fall-themed train rides from the Virginia Truckee Railroad Company and the Nevada State Railroad Museum will be available on Saturday and Sunday. A virtual “Light After Dark” fitness event will be held on Saturday to support the Carson City-based Advocated to End Domestic Violence program. Browsers Corner Book Store, operated by the Friends of the Carson City Library, is having its grand reopening starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 with new hours being from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Being a student at Carson High School is rewarding enough, academically speaking, but learning is happening everywhere; however, forcing a teacher to dress in pink, from head to toe, wearing a pink tutu, is a different story and an exciting fundraising opportunity.

The Carson City Library will be hosting a virtual story time for PRE-K (children not yet in elementary school) and families on Oct. 15 at 11:30 a.m.

Heading into the weeknd, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement! Meet Dr. Elizabeth Rampe, a collaborator on the Mars Curiosity Rover and a member of the Mars analog mission science team. There will be a presentation on the Red Planet and Q&A. Our group activity is helping our own rover navigate across Mars.

The Carson High School Retro-Homecoming and Respect Week went without a hitch, and the beauty of it was administrators, teachers, and staff had nothing whatsoever to do with making the decisions as the students chose both the candidates and the winners.

The Carson City Library will be hosting a new virtual program called "Girls Who Code," on October 10 beginning at 11 a.m.

The Dayton Library will be hosting their 3rd annual trunk-or-treat on Wednesday October 28th, 2020 from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. This year's event will be a contact-less drive-thru. We are still in need of volunteers to decorate their cars and pass out candy. We are also accepting donations of candy through October 23rd. CARSON CITY — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation is the recipient of a nearly $14 million federal grant to support short-term job training programs to help prepare unemployed and underemployed individuals for in-demand occupations in Nevada, Gov. Steve Sisolak announced Friday.

It may be a bit quiet around the high school lately, but this will not stop the CHS Student Council from making their senior year one to remember. Leadership Adviser Ann Britt said, “I am pleased to announce the Corona Virus cannot take the fun out of everything, so we are hosting a Spirit Week, Sept. 25 through Oct. 2, at CHS.”

The Friends of the Carson City Library and its Browsers Corner Book Store have been hit hard by the COVID-19 shutdown.

While we have appreciated the support of our loyal fans, our business — like many others in our community — has been challenged with the fallout of the pandemic.

Aww, the excitement of that early morning phone call and the joyfulness of being able to go back to sleep with the anticipation of a full day ahead of hanging out in pajamas and watching Netflix or Amazon Prime.

As the 2020-21 school year continues, the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada is packed with learning programs and exciting activities for kids of all ages.

The Carson City location at 1870 Russell Way is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with dozens of hands-on programs. Spots inside the building are limited to 135 kids each day, but countless activities will be held throughout the year.

New Nevada System of Higher Education Chancellor Dr. Melody Rose spent the morning visiting Western Nevada College facilities on Thursday in Carson City. Dr. Rose is touring all of NSHE’s college campuses during her first month as chancellor.

The chair of the Douglas County Commission wanted to cut library funding after the director showed support for Black Lives Matter, according to new emails obtained by News 4-FOX 11.

Through a public records request, we uncovered new details on the Douglas County library debacle, which began in July when Douglas County library director Amy Dodson supported adopting a diversity statement and backing Black Lives Matter.

On Tuesday, the Douglas County Library Board of Trustees authorized a $30,000 investigation into Library Director Amy Dodson following a meeting agenda item in which Dodson proposed the Board formally support Black Lives Matter (BLM).

Since the agenda was issued, Douglas County has appeared in national headlines regarding the ire of Sheriff Dan Coverley over the proposed statement of support. A subsequent “Black Lives Matter” protest and “Blue Lives Matter” counter-protest resulted in more national attention and as many as three police incident reports, to include alleged assaults that took place during the rally. No arrests have been made.

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Steam train rides in Carson City and Virginia City will be available Saturday through Sunday. The Carson Canyon Railbike Tours will run four times over the next three days, bringing excitement unlike any other. Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe will open two hours early beginning at 6 a.m. to ease capacity and congestion. Combined with plenty of live music, Labor Day weekend will be a thrill! The Douglas County Library Board of Trustees voted 3-2 Tuesday to approve an investigation into the library’s director Amy Dodson and the staff of the library regarding their proposed support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

On July 22, the Douglas County Public Library Board of Trustees issued an agenda for their July 28th meeting which included a discussion item on a proposed addition to their Diversity Statement.
