Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the South Carson Complete Streets Project groundbreaking ceremony, the International Film Festival held Friday and Saturday at the Carson City Community Center and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie weekend with door-to-door cookie sales. Combined with plenty of live music, the Carson City region is in store for a busy three days. Read on for more information.

The Carson Fly Fishing Club will meet March 10, 6:30 p.m. in the Ormsby Room of the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Monthly meeting of the Carson Fly Fishing Club are held at the CCSO Ormsby Room. Come to our club gathering and meet fellow fishing enthusiasts; listen and learn from guest speakers; enjoy a chance to win a fun prize in the raffle; hear the latest fishing stories, and much more.

Each year, National Read Across America Day is observed on March 2, the birthday of children’s book author Ted Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. In celebration, many schools often dedicate an entire week as “Reading Week.” In Carson City, grade-schoolers at Fremont Elementary School got to celebrate a week prior to the observance with several community partners and local dignitaries, who visited classrooms to read to students.

Heading into Tuesday, activities and events lined up around the capital city include morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, a regular meeting of the Carson City School Board, the Nevada Artists Association Judged Winter Show at its Brewery Arts Center gallery, Carson Victory Rollers present a new skater program, plus classes at Yaple's Ballroom and more.

Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunt with millions of caches hidden worldwide; in fact, there are hundreds of them hidden right here in Carson City. This Saturday, Feb. 29, join the Park Rangers on an interactive adventure searching for three caches hidden within Riverview Park.

Time flies as the sun shines going into the last Monday in February. Expect daytime highs around 60. Activities include are a political luncheon with Clint Koble, a primary candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, plus yoga, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

After a gangbuster start to the winter season, a lot of us in Tahoe are wondering where all the snow has gone. Sitting here at the end of February with snowpack numbers dwindling, snow lovers are chomping at the bit, waiting to see the storm track shift back our way.

Carson City's Creative Writing group We're always "Write" is back for 2020! Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Heading into Monday, Presidents' Day, we're looking at sunny skies and a high near 55. Being a federal holiday, local, state and federal offices are closed, as are schools and banks. Activities include a meeting of Carson City AGLOW International at the Children's Museum, a campaign rally featuring presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, a meeting of the Carson City Democrats focusing on Saturday's Nevada caucus, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Ever spend some time watching high school students having fun? They do it so naturally. There is no lack of excitement happening at Carson High School, and one of the more amazing aspects of this high school is everyone is invited to attend every event.

Simple pleasures, like nibbling on homemade French fries dipped in killer ranch dressing, are what social workers at the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services Carson City District Office look forward to most in the thick of daily stressors.

With sunny skies and daytime highs in the 50s, Tuesday is shaping up to be a great day around the capital city. At the end of the day, there's no better way to cap off the evening than by celebrating, with your sweetheart, music about love. Capital City Hoops, a local non-profit organization, is hosting a free basketball clinic for boys and girls in grades 2nd through 8th grade. The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 at Carson High School.

Heading into the first day of the work week, happenings around the capital city Monday include art and fitness activities, a luncheon highlighting presidential candidate Gov. Deval Patrick, a sunset walk at Washoe Lake State Park, a free Partnership Carson City Yoga class at the community center, a Valentine's blood drive, swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Capitol FFA traveled to North Valleys High School Feb. 1 in order to compete in the Northern FFA Zone Competition. CHS Agriculture Mechanics, Welding, and FFA Adviser and teacher Rebecca Glocknitzer said, "I know all of our students worked hard to prepare for Zone, and Mr. Mann and I are so proud of their efforts."

The Carson City Fire Department is on scene near the Fox on Carson Street, and traffic is facing a slight delay, but there’s no accident. Instead, the delays are being caused by local residents slowing to give what they can to the firefighters raising money for “Climbing for a Cure,” a rigorous nation-wide stair climb in Seattle, which raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The Silver State Model T Ford Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Red’s Old 395 Grill, 10455 S. Carson Street in Carson City.

Optional no-host dinner precedes the meeting at 6:00 p.m. Anyone interested in Model T Ford cars or trucks is welcome to attend.
