Well the kids are home thanks to COVID-19, and after approximately four hours the novelty of not being at school is sure to wear off and they’ll expect you to provide them with entertainment after they've done their online school learning assignments. In light of our new normal of social distancing and self-quarantine in an effort to reduce the risk of spreading C19, the Brewery Arts Center and National Grassroots Concert Series have teamed up to brighten your St. Patrick’s Day and re-stream the outrageously fun concert that took place at Levitt AMP Carson City on The Change Companies Stage last August by The Wicked Tinkers.

Heading into the first of the work week, there's some uncertainty due to concerns over the coronavirus. Some activities will go on as scheduled while others may be canceled. We're advising you check with event organizers ahead of time before you plan on attending.

Heading into the weekend, activities abound around the Carson City region over the next three days. We should note you'll want to check ahead of time in case of cancellations.

The Nevada Families First program presents a day of fun at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. We will start our visit with story time followed by an art activity, then work our way through the museum and play with your child/children. We have reserved an hour and a half for our group connection, but you are welcome to stay longer.

Heading into Thursday, happenings lined up include a monthly meeting of the Carson City Native and Newcomers, a preserving history workshop through the Nevada State Archives, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, an introduction into improv comedy at the Brewery Arts Center, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and more. Heading into Tuesday, sunny skies and more springlike weather are ahead before active weather patterns start up again later in the week. Activities lined up around the capital city include morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered. You can join true crime, paranormal writer Janice Oberding at Nevada State Library and Archives for a brown bag luncheon. “We did our free clinic at the Community Center, and what a turnout we had; around 100 participants showed up, we had a ton of fun, and we even had high school varsity players help coach the clinic as well” said Carson High School Varsity Basketball coach Jordan Glover.

Happenings lined up include a Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, auditions for the Carson City Follies show in July, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a wood design workshop at Rustically Divine, an artist reception for Galen Brown and Emily Kray at Western Nevada College and a Muscle Powered afternoon hike. The thaw continues around the capital city as we head into Tuesday with highs expected in the mid-50s. Events lined up feature morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered, Carson City TRIAD will give a presentation at the senior center on scams targeting older adults. The first Monday of March should bring clearing skies and sunshine after a weekend of wild weather. Activities include a discussion and documentary viewing regarding the high cost of pharmaceutical drugs, plus Read Across America storytime for young children at the Carson City Library, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Unless you live under a rock you are certainly aware that exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Despite that only 30% of the US population is currently achieving the daily recommended amount of physical activity. You may not be aware though that most fitness centers report losing approximately 50% of their members each year. Elite gyms will attempt to mitigate the loss of their members by offering programs that encourage attendance and a sense of community at their facility, such as group exercise classes. These elite gyms will still see losses of approximately 30% of their members yearly.
