Car flips during street race near Fremont Elementary School, teens cited
A high school student was uninjured Monday after the vehicle he was driving flipped on its hood during a street race with another student that ended near Fremont Elementary School, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy said.
The rollover was on Saliman Road between Depot and Little streets a few hundred feet away from the elementary school, which was in session at the time, said Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Matt Smith.
The juvenile and another Carson High student, both teen boys of driving age, were cited and released to their parents. The wreck was reported at 1:41 p.m.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is working with Carson City Sheriff's Office to determine the rate of speed the vehicles were going at the time of the rollover. The vehicle that flipped was a Honda CRV. The other vehicle involved in the race was an Acura Integra. It is believed the race began near Fifth and Saliman.
