Dog Hit By Car on Hwy 50 and Left For Dead - Rescued
Wednesday morning this dog was struck by a car on Hwy 50 in Mound House, just under the V&T overpass, and left for dead. A good Samaritan stopped and picked him up, took him to Lone Mountain Vet in Carson City.
She listed him on the "Lost and found pets of Northern Nevada" Facebook page in an attempt to locate his owner. Thursday the owner came forward and went to Lone Mountain Vet to sign authorization for euthanasia. Lone Mountain Vet asked him if he would be willing to sign over the dog to Dog Town Rescue, who would take care of his medical needs and find him a new home. The owner agreed and this dog, now named Pepe, is in the legal custody of Dog Town.
He may need surgery to repair his pelvis, which is broken in three places, and will be quite expensive. So far estimated at $3000.00. Dog Town is meeting with Dr. Matt at Lone Mtn to discuss his prognosis, and to find out if Pepe would be able to heal up with extended crate rest and not have to go through the surgery.
Either way Pepe is going to have some extensive medical bills and will still need to be neutered and may need physical therapy. If the pelvis can heal on its own, he may still eventually lose his hind leg due to the location of the breaks - in the joint.
