Carson City arrests: Couple booked for alleged child abuse/neglect after drug search

Two were arrested Wednesday for suspicion of child abuse/neglect after law enforcement found filthy living conditions and pounds of marijuana and marijuana extracting material inside a residence that is occupied by the couple and a 17-month-old child, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

Joshua Nicholas Young, 22, and Aleea Juarez, 20, were taken into custody following an investigation by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team. Young was also booked for felony possession of over 1 ounce of marijuana.

According to the booking report, A Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a home in the 700 block of Hot Springs Road for a welfare check of a 17-month-old female. CCSO was alerted to the residence by a person who asked for a welfare check of the child who lived there.

The deputy noticed filthy living conditions and marijuana all over the home, the report states. There was marijuana shake, bud and stems on the ground and tubs of marijuana throughout the residence.

Photos were taken inside the home of the conditions. Officers observed a butane fuel can, which is used as a solvent in the butane honey oil process, that extracts THC from marijuana plants and results in a substance that is a more potent form of ingesting marijuana. Because the process includes the use of butane, there's a risk of fires, burns and explosions, the report states.

An interview was conducted with the woman who reveled she smoked marijuana and typically smokes on the balcony and that the marijuana belonged to her fiancé, Joshua Young.

An interview with Joshua Young revealed the marijuana in the residence belonged to him where he bought it from a grow site he works at occasionally in California, the report states. He said he usually smokes on the balcony or in a chair in the living room next to the balcony door.

CCSO applied for and was granted a search warrant for the residence, and to take a hair sample from the 17-month-old. During the execution of the search warrant, SET detectives located several pounds of marijuana, digital scales, three firearms and BHO wax.

Because of the home's living conditions and the evidence collected, SET officers determined the pair placed the 17-month old in immediate danger for her wellbeing, the report states. They were arrested for suspicion of child abuse/neglect. The child was turned over to a social worker with the Nevada Department of Child and Family Services.

It was noted in the report that after executing the search, a detective showed a behavior change and stated they had a severe headache. The detective was taken to Carson Tahoe Health. Doctors diagnosed the detective with hydrocarbon inhalation. The DCFS social worker was notified and the juvenile was also taken to Carson Tahoe Hospital. Bail for Young: $42,500. Bail for Juarez, $40,000.
