The Historical Society of Dayton Valley and The Carson City Historical Society Presents- From Frontier to Capital: The Making of Carson City
January 15 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Gold drew them west. Geography kept them here. History made it a capital.
The Historical Society of Dayton Valley, in collaboration with the Carson City Historical Society, invites
the community to a special evening lecture on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 7:00 pm at the Dayton
Valley Community Center (170 Pike Street at Logan, in Old Town Dayton).
Presented by Liz Cain, President of the Carson City Historical Society, and Gary Cain, Past President,
this talk explores Carson City’s transformation from a rugged frontier settlement in the 1850s into
Nevada’s enduring seat of government. Through historic photographs and personal stories, the
presentation highlights the people, geography, and early decisions that shaped the capital and its close
historical ties to Dayton and neighboring communities.
This event represents a joint effort between the two historical societies and reflects their shared interest
in working together in the future to foster greater participation in local history, strengthen community
connections, and ensure these stories continue to be preserved and shared.
Doors open at 6:30 pm for a meet and greet with light refreshments. Free and open to all.
Presented as part of a growing partnership to encourage broader community engagement with local history.
