Tuesday marked the first round of regional play offs in volleyball for all of the Division 1 Northern Nevada high schools. Of those elite high schools were the Carson Senators volleyball team. The Senators came in as the heavy favorites and received home field advantage earlier tonight as they made battle with the Reno Huskies.

The Carson squad looked very strong out of the gate and absolutely dominated the first portion of the first set going up all the way to 18-6. After a series of sloppy play on both teams, the set score read 25-10 Carson to conclude set number one.

Carson began the second set with a lot of momentum going up immediately 5-0, but Reno managed to make a contest out of it and brought it to 6 all, then 7 all. The next several points were very competitive and the score was soon 10 all before finally the Senators extended a lead to as high as six at 20-14. A couple points later the Senators closed out set number two at 25-17.

Set number three wasn’t much different form set one or two with Carson pulling ahead early but Reno keeping it competitive in the middle. The Senators began to pull away in the middle getting up by 10 at 15-5 and again at 16-6. After another decent Reno comeback the score before the last series of play was 20-13. After some second string substitutions on the Carson side and some horrific Carson play the Senators still managed to pull out a victory to finish the set out at 25-23.

The Senators next match up will be at North Valley’s High School at 6p.m., this Thursday against the winner of the Damonte Ranch and Reed contest.
