In the Quad counties that make up Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties, there have been 20,519 total cases, 4,598 cases remain active, 341 people have died from COVID-19, and 15,577 individuals have recovered, according to the latest Nevada Health Response statistics.

From Oct. 28 until Nov. 24, 41 Quad-County residents died from COVID-19 and 1,454 new cases were reported, according to Carson City Health and Human Services.

Quad-County Breakthrough Cases

Vaccine breakthrough cases are individuals who test positive for COVID-19 14 or more days after they have completed all recommended doses of an FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine. A complete vaccination is two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccine. Since February 1, 2021, breakthrough cases make up of 14 percent of all cases ages 12 years and older, according to Carson City Health and Human Services.

Statewide

Statewide, demographic data shows that the majority of cases have occurred in individuals aged 20-29 with a percent of 19.2 percent of all cases, despite making up only 13.9 percent of the total population. The lowest amount of cases have occurred in individuals below the age of 10, with only 4.9 percent of total cases, followed by those above the age of 70 with 7.2 percent of total cases.

Those who identify as white make up the majority of cases at 39.6 percent with those who identify as hispanic second at 34.1 percent. Women have accounted for slightly more cases than men at 51.5 percent of total cases.

Despite women accounting for slightly more cases, men are dying at a higher rate from the virus.

The majority of deaths occurred in those aged 70 or older with 57 percent of total deaths, while the majority of deaths occurred in individuals who identified as white with 56.1 percent of total deaths. Men are dying at a significantly higher rate than women, accounting for 61.4 percent of total deaths.

Vaccines are spread out evenly through the age groups between 20 years of age and 70 + years of age, all falling within or near 15 percent. The age groups of 5-11 and 12-19 are less, with only 1.2 percent and 9.4 percent respectively. Vaccines were only opened for those under the age of 12 earlier this month.

Women are slightly more vaccinated than men with 52.3 percent of vaccines having gone to women, compared to 47.7 percent to men.

Carson City

In Carson City there is a 14-day moving average of 7 new daily confirmed cases, with 505 confirmed cases per 100,000 for the month of November.

For reference, that does not mean that 505 cases were confirmed in Carson City, but it is a method of statistical analysis to place all county numbers on a per 100,000 population in order to have a better understanding of which counties are being hit hardest, and which counties are doing well.

A total of 9,342 cases have been recorded in Carson City.

There is currently a 6 percent test positive rate, with 360 daily total tests per 100,000. The test positivity rate is slightly up from 5.1 percent on Nov. 1, but down significantly from September’s 11 percent.

In total, 53,537 people have been tested, with 103,892 molecular tests and 25,041 antigen tests.

26 individuals are currently hospitalized from COVID-19 in Carson City with 24 confirmed cases and 2 suspected. 3 confirmed or suspected cases are in the ICU or using ventilators.

For November, there were an average of 14 deaths per 100,000 in Carson City. A total of 172 people have died due to COVID-19 in Carson City.

A total of 36,921 vaccinations have been initiated, with 67.91 percent of the population 5 years and older having began their vaccines.

Douglas County

Douglas County has a 14-day average of 5 daily confirmed cases, with 489 confirmed cases per 100,000 during November.

There have been 5,009 cumulative confirmed cases.

There is currently a 13 percent test positively rate with 155 daily tests per 100,000 performed. A total of 42,807 cumulative tests have been performed, with 38,605 molecular tests and 4,202 antigen tests.

The test positivity rate is up from only 9.2 percent on Nov. 1, but down from September’s 24.8 percent.

59.2 percent of the population aged 5 years and older have initiated the vaccine in Douglas County, with 28,132 total vaccinations reported as initiated.

Lyon County

There have been 10 new daily confirmed cases in Lyon County over the past two weeks with 589 confirmed cases per 100,000 during November.

In Lyon County, a total of 6,993 cases have been confirmed.

There is currently a 12.3 test positivity rate, with 57,099 cumulative tests performed, with 47,605 molecular tests and 9,494 antigen tests.

The test positivity rate is slightly down from Nov. 1 at 12.9 percent, and down from September’s 22 percent.

There are currently no individuals in Lyon County hospitalized.

There have been 123 cumulative deaths in Lyon County from COVID-19, with 5 deaths per 100,000 during November.

54.73 percent of the population ages 5 and over have initiated their vaccine, with 30,495 total vaccines reported as initiated.

Storey

In Storey County, there is currently no new daily confirmed cases, with 120 confirmed cases per 100,000 for November.

There have been 227 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Storey County.

There is currently a 7.7 percent test positivity rate with 1,113 cumulative tests performed with 893 molecular tests and 220 antigen tests.

The test positivity rate is down significantly from Nov. 1 at 22.2 percent, and significantly down from September’s 35 percent.

There are currently no hospitalizations in Storey County from COVID-19.

There are currently no new daily deaths with 24 deaths per 100,000. 6 total Storey County residents have died from COVID-19.

21.76 percent of the population ages 5 and over have initiated their vaccine with 888 total vaccinations reported as initiated.
