Western Nevada College

Keep the momentum going toward your degree by attending classes at Western Nevada College this summer.
Summer session starts on Monday, June 14 and there are more course options available than in previous years.
With WNC offering a variety of classes required to earn a degree, the short term allows students to work ahead or catch up on their requirements.
Classes are being offered in biology, history, art, criminal justice, business administration and management, core humanities, economics, Emergency Medical Services, math, auto body collision and English, and more. Some of these courses can be taken in person such Watercolor 1 (ART 127), Automotive Collision I (AUTB 120), General Microbiology (BIOL 251), Composition I (ENG 101), Composition II (ENG 102), Survey of U.S. Constitution History (HIST 111), College Algebra (MATH 124), Piano (MUSA 129), as well as six EMS courses.

One class that comes highly recommended by faculty and previous students is Strategies of Academic Success (EPY 150). The online class helps students learn how to learn. More importantly, it helps them become more successful in their future classes in higher education.
“I like to think of it as a course that is designed to assist students in their personal journey, whether it is their academic journey or their own intrapersonal journey and to help them engage in the process of reaching their own individual potentials — wherever those potentials lie,” said WNC History Professor Kim DesRoches.
Gwyneth Crowe previously took the course and came away endorsing the class and what it did for her.
“This class is really great if you would like to learn how to self-reflect, learn some valuable study techniques, learn test-taking strategies and how to grow as a person,” she said. “I really loved this class and its content. I took it because I’m a nervous test taker. I didn’t think I would enjoy it, but I ended up really liking it.”
English Professor Geri Pope said that students shouldn’t hesitate to take the class so they can learn more about themselves and how to help themselves.
“Do you want to spend a semester really, really thinking of yourself, figuring out what you need and really assessing who you are and what that means? Do you want to help plan your future, want to find goals that are meaningful for you?” Pope said. “This class is so much a step forward. It’s the class about you. It is about self-discovery, self-reflection and really learning what you need to succeed and to support yourself and achieve your goals.”
So, spend 8 weeks earning college credits and still have several weeks remaining before the start of fall semester in late August. Register now! Students can add a full-term class through their myWNC account until Wednesday, June 16, but after this date, a late registration form with instructor approval must be submitted to Admissions & Records.
