The Charlie Abowd Memorial Turkey and Food Drive is accepting frozen turkeys and nonperishable food donations through Nov. 25 to benefit three Carson City-area nonprofits.
Donations will benefit the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, the Northern Nevada Dream Center and Advocates to End Domestic Violence.
Food donations can be dropped off at KNVC 95.1 FM Carson City Community Radio, located on the Brewery Arts Center campus at 511 W. King St.
The drive began Nov. 2 and continues through Wednesday, Nov. 25, — the day before Thanksgiving.
The annual food drive is named for Charlie Abowd, the longtime Carson City chef and former co-owner of Cafe at Adele’s, who died Nov. 9, 2024 at age 73.
Abowd launched the original Thanksgiving food drive with KNVC shortly before his death in 2024 to collect food for local residents experiencing food insecurity. The effort continues as a memorial food drive today to honor Abowd’s legacy of feeding Carson City families.
Abowd and his wife, Karen, also helped to found The Greenhouse Project, a Carson City nonprofit that grows and distributes fresh produce to residents in need, and provides agricultural education opportunities for students.
Monetary donations can also be made online through Food for Thought at www.nvfoodforthought.org.
