Well over three hundred mountain bikers converged on Carson City this past weekend to race in the fourth rendition of the Capital City Crusher, the third race in the 2026 Nevada North NICA league series.

Just before racing started, four Senators, including coach Johnny Lenz (cello), senior Asa Morway (guitar), and sisters Syrae and Ainsley Lenz got the festivities started with the National Anthem.

Racing started at 9AM with eleven Senators lined up in the high school boys categories. Three top 10 finishers included Jax Huntington (3^rd, JV), Fletcher Morway (9^th, JV), and points leader in the level 4 category Jackson Isom (2^nd, level 4). Racers accumulate points throughout the season based on their finishing position in each race. At the end of the season, an overall season podium is awarded based on the athletes’ individual point totals.

Six Senators raced in the high school girls categories starting at 10:30AM. Senior Riley Kuhlman continued her run of first place finishes, this time on the familiar Senators home race course. This was the first year the varsity girls raced 4 laps (in previous years, varsity girls raced 3 laps). Riley’s final time of one hour and eighteen minutes sets a high bar for the future.

In the level 4 category, the Senators saw 5 racers finish in the top 10. Evie Huntington finished nearly one and half minutes ahead of second place to claim the top step on the podium. Syrae Lenz crossed the line in fourth place and was followed by teammates Maddy Cranston (8^th), Lucy Wacker (9^th), and Mira Orvald (10^th).

Middle school girls were third on the day’s start line. Scarlett Sylvester crossed the finish line in 7^th in the level 2 category. Eight Senators lined up in the level 1 girls category with three crossing the line in the top 10. Clover Sibenaller crossed the finish line in 5^th place for the second time this season while Evie Bagley (9^th) and Lucy Close (10^th) cracked the top ten for the first time this season.

Nineteen Senators lined up in the Middle school boys category, the last to line up for the Capital City Crusher. While none cracked the top 10 in their respective categories, Quest Dunbar (11^th, level 1) and Simon Jarvis (12^th, level 2) are inching ever closer.

The Senators finished 3^rd overall in the Division 1 category and are now turning their attention to the High Sierra (Mammoth Mountain) Showdown on Oct. 4.
