There will be a fire service training conference Tuesday where Carson City Fire Department firefighters will get hands-on training from FireShowWest, a regional fire service nonprofit. There will be a similar event Thursday in Reno.
The Carson City event will bring together firefighters, instructors, industry experts, and fire service leaders from across the country to the conference.
Though not a public event, nationally recognized instructors will put Carson City firefighters through real-world training evolutions, including live fire scenarios, forcible entry, firefighter survival and other critical skills.
FireShowsWest’s mission is to ensure firefighters throughout the region have access to the most current, relevant training and continuing education available in the fire service.
“The few minutes the public sees firefighters working on an emergency scene are backed by hundreds of hours of training, repetition, preparation and hard work. This event offers a firsthand look at what that preparation actually looks like,” said Trish Bonari, executive director of FireShowWest. “And after a summer that absolutely whooped the behind of firefighters throughout our region, they are still showing up, putting their gear back on, and training to be better for the next call.”
The event is an opportunity to showcase the dedication of local fire service and remind the community that preparedness does not stop when fire season ends, she said.
“These men and women are constantly training, learning, and preparing so that when someone in our community is having their worst day, they are ready to answer the call.”
FireShowWest will also hold its conference at Grand Sierra Resort Thursday in Reno.
