UPDATE: Firefighters are being released after battling a structure fire that spread into vegetation Sunday afternoon in the Dresslerville Colony near Gardnerville. It appears the fire is contained and under control as some fire crews, including the Carson City Fire Department, are returning to quarters.

The size of the fire, how many acres, how many homes were damaged and the cause of the fire are unknown at this time. We have reached out to Douglas County and will update as information becomes available.

A structure fire Sunday afternoon in the Gardnerville Ranchos area in Douglas County has caused a vegetation fire that was reportedly spreading. Multiple engines have responded, including Engine 53 from the Carson City Fire Department as mutual aid.

Called into East Fork Fire Protection dispatch at around 3 p.m., the fire has reportedly burned at least one structure in the 1500 block of Cedar Circle in the Dresslerville Colony.

No word yet on any evacuations. It is unclear how much of the fire has extended into the wildland. A battalion chief on scene reported to dispatch that firefighters are on defensive mode to protect structures and vegetation.

This is the third vegetation fire in Douglas County in less than 24 hours.
