A 33-year-old Silver Springs man has been identified by the Nevada Highway Patrol in a fatal accident that happened Friday on US-50 Alternate south of Fernley in Lyon County. The following is a news release from the Nevada Highway Patrol.
On Friday July 17th, 2026, at approximately 3:02 p.m., the Nevada Highway Patrol, a division of the Nevada State Police, responded to a crash on US50 Alternate south of 10 Mile Marker. This is south of Fernley, near the Reno Fernley Raceway, in Lyon County, Nevada.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a blue Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling northbound on US50A. A white Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on US50A. The Trailblazer drove off the roadway to the right. The front of the Trailblazer struck a paddle marker. The Trailblazer rotated and re- entered the roadway crossing all the travel lanes, then driving off the roadway to the left. Flying debris from the shoulder struck the front of the Silverado.
The Trailblazer overturned and traveled through a fence. The Trailblazer struck several wooden poles on private property. The driver of the Trailblazer was ejected. The Trailblazer came to a stop on its side, on private property. The Silverado stopped at the crash scene.
The driver of the Trailblazer, Joeseph E. Cummings, a 33-year-old male, from Silver Springs, Nevada, was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel.
The driver of the Silverado reported no injuries. The Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating this crash.
