A 45-year-old man was arrested early Monday for suspicion of armed robbery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, burglary and multiple other alleged offenses following a holdup Sunday at a convenience store, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

Deputies arrested Jason Bahnsen of Carson City following an investigation. He was also booked for felony burglary with a deadly weapon, dissuading a victim from reporting a crime, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance and breach of peace.

According to the booking report, deputies responded to One Stop Food Mart on East Nye Lane for a robbery Sunday, at 7:20 p.m. Deputies learned the suspect entered the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint and fled the area in a white Mercedes four-door sedan.

Video was collected and reviewed and patrol officers canvassed the area looking for the suspect. Deputies interviewed the cashier who explained the suspect was wearing a black hat, mask, one-piece coverall, light boots, gloves and gray backpack, arriving in a white Mercedes and loitering in front of the store for more than an hour.

The suspect entered the store and approached, pointing a black small caliber handgun at him and told the clerk to empty the contents of the cash drawer (approximately $500 to $1000) and put it into a plastic bag. The clerk complied. The clerk attempted to activate the store’s panic alarm but the suspect pointed the gun and told him not to activate it, telling the clerk to move further away from him, the report states.

The suspect removed a battery powered cutoff grinder from his backpack and attempted to cut open the store’s safe which contained additional cash. The suspect was unsuccessful and pointed the firearm back at the clerk and told him to place approximately four vape disposable pens into the bag, which the clerk did. The suspect order him to go back to the front door and unlock it, which he did. The suspect entered the parking lot and fled in the vehicle.

A neighbor in the area recognized the vehicle and suspect on a previous day and through further investigation, the suspect was identified as Jason Bahnsen.

Deputies learned where he lived through vehicle registration and applied for a search warrant for the residence. Deputies surrounded the Airport Road apartment residence and made announcements for the occupants to surrender. The suspect briefly refused to exit but later surrendered and was taken into custody.

Deputies reached the residence and located a small black 9mm handgun inside a floor safe within the man’s closet and a key to the smaller safe that contained the handgun. The suspect is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a previous felony conviction. There was a shotgun under the man’s bed, a radio frequency scanner on the kitchen countertop, which was tuned to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, a black hat and two-toned gloves on the couch consistent to what the man was identified wearing and approximately three grams of suspected methamphetamine located in his pants pocket on the bathroom floor. Bail: $25,000.
