A man was booked for multiple alleged felony offenses including grand larceny of nine firearms, commercial burglary, possession of stolen property and other alleged crimes after crashing a stolen vehicle into a firearms store early Sunday morning, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
The suspect, identified as John Doe as he has not provided a name that has been verified by CCCSO, was booked into Carson City Jail for alleged felony grand larceny of nine firearms, commercial burglary, possession of stolen property, grand larceny of an auto, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempted vehicle burglary, gross misdemeanor destruction of property, DUI and resisting arrest.
The suspect was caught after fleeing from a deputy, giving chase where the suspect then jumped from a 2-story building. The deputy had met with a reporting party earlier who told them that a man attempted to enter their truck and then ran off, stating the suspect also attempted to enter two other vehicles on the street.
The deputy states they were looking for surveillance cameras in the area when they heard an alarm call for a “glass break” being dispatched in the 1800 block of East William Street, Carson Guns.
Suspect found bleeding, runs from deputy and jumps from 2-story building
The deputy was in the proximity area of the call and observed a man wearing sweatshirt and dark pants coming from the intersection on Rand and East Long. The man, who had blood on his hands and clothes, matched the description of the reporting party who said that a man had attempted to break into his vehicle. The deputy made contact with the suspect, who was disoriented and verbally combative, the report states.
He would not listen to commands and kept evading the deputy, making statements to the effect of “they have rifles over there” “go get them” and “Im not going to get shot ’cause of you,” the report states.
The man kept lifting his shirt to show the deputy he didn’t have a gun in his waistband. However, due to his behavior and knowledge and the possibility that he had been inside the gun store, the deputy drew their gun and held him at gunpoint.
At this point the suspect kept walking away from the deputy and then took off running. The man went behind 1841 East Long Street, then went up the back staircase to the second floor of the building. The deputy, who did not follow him into the building, watched the suspect then jump off the second-story balcony and fall to the ground. The deputy gave the suspect verbal commands for the suspect to stop and comply, the report states.
The man then curled behind a bush and hid under it where deputies were able to safely get him into handcuffs. A deputy was able to locate a wallet in his pants pocket, which contained a Social Security number with a name on it along with other miscellaneous cards.
Deputies attempted to run the information through Carson City Dispatch with the Social Security number but was unable to find a match. The man would not provide his date of birth, the report states.
The deputy followed the Carson City Fire Department to the hospital where the man was extremely belligerent and aggressive. The deputy learned additionally that a vehicle had drove through the front window of the Carson Guns, which video camera footage had been found regarding the suspect. The deputy requested a telephonic search warrant for a blood sample as part of a DUI investigation. The warrant was granted and blood draw was made at the hospital.
Suspect allegedly stole vehicle that crashed into gun store
According to the booking report, deputies were conducting a building search at the Carson Aquatic Center when there was a call out over the radio where a suspect who matched the description of a prior vehicle burglary was in custody after evading and jumping from a two-story building.
Deputies responded to Carson Guns where a deputy spotted a green Subaru Forester in front of the store. The vehicle had gone through the parking lot through the front windows where it came to rest in the front of the store. The suspect driver was in sheriff’s office custody when other officers arrived.
Videos show suspect crashing into building, stealing firearms
Deputies notified the owner of the store and asked for video cameras of the incident. The footage shows that at approximately 3:25 a.m. The vehicle is captured driving through the front end of the store. A male wearing a hooded sweatshirt and baseball hat is seen getting out of the vehicle and grabbing nine AR style rifles off the shelves of the store and then leaving the store with rifles.
The deputy recognized the subject in the video as the subject who had been taken into custody because of the hooded sweatshirt, hat and facial hair, according to the report. The video footage was confirmed as being the person in custody. A deputy advised the suspect arrested was possibly driving under the influence.
CCSO deputies canvass area for firearms stolen from store
Deputies investigated and canvassed the area for stolen firearms, where four of the stolen rifles were found west of the store. Two of the stolen rifles were located near the rear of the vehicle just inside the front wall, while three firearms were found after deputies followed a blood trail on the sidewalk of Long Street.
Meanwhile, deputies attempted to contact the register owner of the vehicle, and found them in the 2100 block of East Long Street. The registered owner (RO) advised he had driven the car to Gardnerville at which point the car began to smoke and was inoperable. The RO advised he had the car towed back to his apartment where he left it in the parking lot with keys in the vehicle and doors unlocked. He advised he did not know the vehicle could start or run and advised he did not authorize anyone to take vehicle and said he wanted to report the car stolen, the report states.
Detectives were brought into investigate, track down cameras where they began canvassing the area. The guns stolen from the store were processed. Additional camera footage was found, where the Subaru is seen driving east on William Street and then turning into the parking lot of Carson Guns. The green Subaru is then seen driving into the front of Carson Guns. A few moments later, the suspect is seen walking out of Carson Guns with AR rifles in his arms. He is then seen going through the alley.
The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment and medical clearance. The suspect originally identified himself, but deputies were unable to confirm his identity. He was taken to jail and booked as John Doe until a WINS check can be completed. We will update as soon as the man’s identity has been confirmed.
