The Carson High School (CHS) Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) unit underwent its annual Area Managers Inspection (AMI) Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025. The AMI is designed to ensure units are meeting the Navy’s high expectations and providing meaningful leadership development opportunities to students.
The AMI is a part of the program’s overall grade for rankings within the area, and results or scores are not normally posted until early to mid-April. In this case, scores for the AMI will be given by Ken Ballard, the Area Manager.
All aspects of the NJROTC program were inspected, including supply, administration, property inventory and finances. According to Senior Chief Skirvin, all programs inspected were outstanding.

“From my point of view, the inspection went well,” said Senior Chief Jerry Skirvin, CHS NJROTC Teacher. “Cadets did a great job of improvising on the fly with changes in weather and moving the ‘Pass In Review’ ceremony inside versus the football field. The cadets were enthusiastic and involved the entire day.”
CHS NJROTC cadets participated in a personnel inspection, showcased their drill routines and briefed inspectors on unit goals, community service activities, academic achievements and citizenship development. The cadet leadership team also presented an overview of this year’s initiatives, including increased community engagement, expanded service projects and efforts to strengthen recruiting and retention.
The NJROTC program at Carson High aims to teach high school students the values of citizenship, leadership, character and community service, while also providing a foundation for future careers in the military or other fields. The program is offered in more than 600 high schools across the United States, and the NJROTC Area Managers visit each unit once a year to conduct inspections.
