A 42-year-old woman was arrested early Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, possession of a firearm while under the influence and possession of a controlled substance, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
At 3:25 a.m. a deputy observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Stewart Street with expired registration. The deputy conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Stewart Street and Wright Way.
The deputy made contact with the driver and immediately noticed several signs of impairment. The woman exhibited extremely slurred speech and made disjointed and nonsensical statements regarding her travel plans, the report states.
She initially claimed she had driven from Reno to fill up on gas because she recalled seeing cheap gas at a station next to a bar the night prior. This struck the deputy as odd due to the fact that the bar is located on Highway 50, north of the direction the woman was headed. She then changed her story stating she had left a casino on North Carson Street and was stopping for gas before returning home, the report states.
While speaking with the woman, she voluntarily stated she had a firearm in her bra and that she possessed a valid concealed carry permit. (CCW). The deputy verified through dispatch that she did have a valid CCW, the report states.
Due to her slurred speech, inconsistent statements and overall demeanor, the deputy suspected alcohol impairment. The deputy asked the woman if she would voluntarily submit to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The woman agreed. The woman exited the vehicle and the firearm was safely removed.
The woman showed signs of impairment on the tests. She provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .186 and was arrested. As the deputy conducted an inventory of the vehicle, they located a small clear bag of suspected cocaine.
She was read the informed consent and stated she understood and was willing to submit to evidentiary blood tests. She was taken to jail where a phlebotomist took two vials of blood. Bail: $2,500.
