After a blustery Monday to start the work week, cooler conditions will bring areas of mountain snow and valley rain showers through Tuesday evening to Carson City and surrounding counties, according to the National Weather Service.

There’s 15-25 percent chances for isolated thunderstorms and, snow showers are possible as snow level rise from near around 5,000 feet to 6,500 feet Tuesday afternoon but accumulations will be limited to slushy conditions along higher Sierra passes, forecasters said.

As for snowfall totals Tuesday in the Sierra, forecasters say snow at elevations above 6,500 to 7,000 feet will likely have 1 to 3 inches with locally heavier amounts of 3 to 5 inches along the ridges in the Lake Tahoe area southward through Mono County.

Meanwhile, elevations below 6,500 in the Tahoe Basin, US-395 in Mono and Alpine counties, and areas north of Plumas County could see a trace up to a couple inches Tuesday. See NVroads.com for the latest travel conditions. There are no advisories or watches at this time.
