The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) invites the public to the spring opening of the Washoe State Tree Nursery, now offering native and adapted plants without property size or location restrictions.

“When the conservation nurseries program first started, there were rules about property size and location that limited who could buy plants,” said Cynara M. Medina, NDF’s Education and Information Officer. “Those restrictions were lifted last year to make it easier for more Nevadans to get these plants and use them.”

The Washoe State Tree Nursery, located at 885 Eastlake Blvd, New Washoe City, specializes in native and adapted species that support a variety of conservation goals, including erosion control to wildlife habitat and wildfire risk reduction. This spring, the nursery is offering more than 50 species of trees, shrubs, grasses, and flowers.

From May 8–17, the nursery will be open Thursday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and will shift to by-appointment-only starting May 22.
