The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its first “Coffee with a Cop” event this Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Dunkin’ Donuts on East William Street.

“Coffee with a Cop” is a growing initiative across America with more than 650 law enforcement agencies in 47 states participating. The goal of the meeting is to allow officers and the community a relaxed time to exchange topics and share information in a comfortable setting.

The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees may arrive at 11 a.m.

This is a time to get to know one-another and share interests, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. There will be no formal presentations, just conversation with persons who show up.

All are invited to attend. There is a charge for the coffee.

There will be several different disciplines from the Sheriff’s Office at the event such as K-9, SET, Dispatch, Motors Patrol, Detention, said Furlong. Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol will also be on hand.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office uses many opportunities to educate the public about the mission and values of the department, but this agenda-free event focuses more toward informal chatting with those professionals in the community who are actually serving you, said Furlong.

When it comes to the effectiveness and efficiency of the local law enforcement agency, the trust and relationships shared with the communities are vital, said Furlong. This lunch time social expands the current activities already in place, including National Night Out, Cops N Kids Open House, Shop with a Hero, Citizens Academy and other activities that foster community relationship building.

Dunkin’ Donuts is located at 2190 East William Street in Carson City.
