UPDATE 2 p.m.: Silver Springs shooting timeline: what we know

On Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at approximately 5 p.m, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of domestic violence at a residence in the 3200 block of Spring Circle in Silver Springs, Nev.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a male subject and learned that 38-year-old Silver Springs resident Haylie Baggett had barricaded herself in a bedroom with her three-year-old child. Deputies attempted to establish communication with Baggett through the closed door, urging her to exit the room safely with the child.

After several minutes without cooperation from Baggett and fearing for the safety of the child, deputies made the decision to force entry into the bedroom. Unbeknownst to the deputies, Baggett was armed with a handgun. As they entered, Baggett shot the child then immediately turned the weapon on herself and took her own life.

Deputies immediately began lifesaving efforts on the child, at the same time summoning emergency medical personnel from the Central Lyon County Fire Department and Careflight. The child was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for further treatment via Careflight, but was later pronounced deceased.
