Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, marked the one-year End of Watch (EOW) date for Nevada State Police Sgt. Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix who were struck and killed in the line of duty by a drunk driver in Las Vegas on Nov. 30, 2023.

In honor and remembrance of the two fallen heroes, Nevada State Police Highway Patrol and partnering agencies statewide, including the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, joined together to conduct a statewide impaired driving apprehension campaign.

Each agency worked different evening hours for the campaign. The operation ran from approximately 5 p.m. Saturday evening to 6 a.m., Sunday morning, according to Kim Yoko Smith, Nevada State Police spokeswoman.

The operation was a special Joining Forces campaign funded by the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety Joining Forces/DUI grant.
