A 35-year-old woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of two counts child abuse/neglect after an investigation led to the discovery of cocaine in her vehicle and in the children’s bedroom of her residence, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

Jenny Thomas was taken into custody at 5:38 p.m. in the 2700 block of Highway 50 East. She was also booked for allegedly using drugs in the presence of a child and possession of a controlled substance.

According to the booking report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle that had a suspended registration. The officer made contact with Thomas, the driver and sole occupant. She advised she knew she did not have valid registration. She was asked if she had current vehicle insurance and she said no. The deputy asked for her driver’s license and she said she left her wallet at home. The deputy did a records check where she was cleared and had no warrants and had a valid driver’s license.

The deputy asked the woman was she was going. She said to a friend’s house. The deputy asked if there were any weapons or drugs in the vehicle. The woman said there should not be but that her friend uses her vehicle often. The deputy asked if she had used drugs and she said she had used methamphetamine a while ago. She was asked if the friend who uses her car uses drugs and she said yes.

A K-9 arrived and did a sniff of the vehicle and did not alert. The deputy asked for consent to search. The woman said yes. A small clear bag of white powdery substance was located, the report states.

The woman was placed into handcuffs and read her Miranda rights. She said she wished to speak. The officer asked if she had used cocaine recently. She said she used cocaine early that morning. The officer asked if the small clear bag was hers and she said yes. At this time, she was placed into custody.

The woman told the deputy she was concerned about her children. The officer asked her where they were. She said the children were at home alone. The officer asked how old the children were. She said 9 and 8 years old. The deputy asked if she had any drugs in the house they could access. She told the officer they would have to climb to get it. The deputy asked if she had anyone to pick up the children and she said yes. The deputy attempted to contact the woman’s family but was unsuccessful, the report states.

The deputy asked if she would consent to having their CCSO deputy partner check on the well being of the children and she said yes. The deputy asked the woman if the CCSO deputy partner could enter the residence and she said yes. The officer seized the small bag and booked into evidence for further testing and the woman’s vehicle was towed.

The deputy took the woman to jail. While at the jail the deputy who went to the residence said he located suspected cocaine in the children’s bedroom. The deputy also advised the house was disarrayed and dirty, the report states.

The woman was booked for the following: Use controlled substance in presence of a child, two counts of child abuse/neglect and possession of a controlled substance. Bail: $40,000. The case has been forwarded to the Department of Child and Family Services for further followup.

Jeffrey Annabel was taken into custody at 7:25 p.m. following an investigation. He was also booked for a failure to appear traffic warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanor offenses.

According to the booking report, a deputy was in the 1400 block of South Carson Street and observed a black Ford Explorer with California paper plates. A records check of the license plate showed it belonged on a Pontiac. The deputy advised that from their training and experience, subjects involved in crimes including possession of stolen vehicles will frequently “cold plate” cars (place false license plates for another vehicle on the suspect vehicle) to avoid detection by law enforcement.

The deputy made contact with the driver, who made multiple furtive movements to the area between the center console and driver’s seat. Suspect narcotics were later located in the location he was moving. The man advised his license was not valid and he did not have insurance on the vehicle. He was detained and provided consent to search the vehicle. A records check returned with a misdemeanor warrant from Nevada Highway Patrol.

A records check on the vehicle’s VIN showed the vehicle was reported stolen to Reno Police Department. A search of the vehicle yielded a clear baggy containing a clear crystalline substance of suspected methamphetamine. Also located in the vehicle was a suspected meth pipe.

The man was in possession of a vehicle that had been reported stolen, had suspected methamphetamine and a suspected methamphetamine pipe and had a warrant for his arrest. He was booked and taken to jail. Bail: $10,000, plus $1,005 cash for the failure to appear warrant.
