Carson City School District

More than 565 apprehensive but excited freshman from the Class of 2028 joined the ranks of Carson High School Tuesday in an orientation lead by administrators and school leadership teams.

The new students joined the Senator ranks of more than 585 sophomores, 570 juniors and 536 seniors.

Although Carson City schools won’t officially open their doors to students until the first day of school Monday, August 19 (grades 1-12) and August 22 (Kindergarten and Pre-K), several meet-and-greet activities and kick-off events have begun and will continue this week.

Monday’s Senator Kick-off event welcomed back all Carson High School upperclassman including seniors, juniors and sophomores. Students were able to get copies of their class schedules, obtain parking permits, purchase lockers and P.E. clothing, receive cellphone pouches and pay for yearbooks.

Additionally, the school district hosted a New Teacher Orientation event at the Governor’s Mansion Tuesday morning. A total of 37 new teachers were greeted by administrators and principals. The number, down from 71 new teachers at the start of the school year last year, speaks to the district’s employee retention efforts. The district also confirmed they will start the school year fully-staffed with all teaching positions filled, with the exception of two hard-to-fill NJROTC instructor positions.

During Tuesday’s breakfast event, the new teachers also had the pleasure of hearing from local dignitaries including Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell and Nevada State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert.
